ACLS FAQ

What is ACLS?

ACLS stands for Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support. It is an advanced, evidence-based resuscitation training program designed for healthcare professionals to respond to cardiovascular emergencies.

Who should take an ACLS class?

ACLS training is typically recommended for healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other advanced life support providers.

How long is an ACLS certification valid?

ACLS certifications last for two years. After this period, individuals need to take a recertification course to renew their certification.

What topics are covered in an ACLS class?

ACLS classes cover a range of advanced topics, including recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest, algorithms for specific emergency situations, airway management, and pharmacology.

Do I need to pass a written exam in ACLS training?

Yes, in-person ACLS courses include a written exam to assess participants’ understanding of the theoretical concepts covered in the course.

Online ACLS courses with skills sessions, do not have a written exam to complete the course.

Are there hands-on skills assessments in ACLS training?

Yes, ACLS training involves hands-on skills assessments to ensure participants can effectively perform advanced life support techniques, such as airway management, use of medications, and rhythm recognition.

What is the Megacode in ACLS?

The Megacode is a simulated scenario in ACLS training where participants demonstrate their ability to integrate various skills and knowledge to manage a complex cardiovascular emergency situation.

Why are your traditional in-person ACLS classes only offered as group trainings?

Traditional ACLS courses require team-based scenarios and a minimum number of participants under AHA guidelines. Classes that don’t reach at least 3 participants must be rescheduled.

To avoid the risk of needing to reschedule due to low participation enrollment, we offer instructor-led ACLS renewal and initial courses only as private group trainings, and recommend ACLS HeartCode + skills sessions for individuals.
